Tatton Park & Anderton Boat Lift

In the morning, we ride on the unique restored anderton Boat Lift – the ‘Cathedral of the Canals’, which provides a vertical 50 foot link between the River Weaver and Trent and Mersey Canal.

Later we visit Tatton Park (National Trust, admission extra), one England’s most complete and finest estates. The Old Hall was the manor house until the late 17th century, when work commenced on a new house.

The Neoclassical Mansion is celebrated for its Gillows furniture and collection of ceramics, paintings and books. The library collection is considered one of the finest in the National Trust.

There are 50 acres of formal gardens and a 1000 acre deer park, with a working rare breed farm.

Medieval & Roman Chester

Chester is packed full of treasures such as the medieval walls and picturesque black and white timbered buildings.

The cathedral dates from the 11th century and the Grosvenor Museum has relics from Roman Times, when Chester was known as Deva.

You can shop in the galleried ‘Rows’, which date from medieval times.

Terracotta Warriors & Liverpool

We travel to Liverpool with a visit to The Terracotta Warriors at the World Museum.

This will be the first time in more than 30 years that spectacular National Cultural Treasures from the tomb of China’s First Emperor, Qin Shihuangdi, will be brought to a museum in the UK outside London.

This vast burial site and tomb complex was discovered near Xi’an in North West China in 1974, and the story of the tomb’s Terracotta Warriors will be displayed alongside important artefacts.

Later there is free time to explore the celebrated Albert Dock.
