In the morning, we ride on the unique restored anderton Boat Lift – the ‘Cathedral of the Canals’, which provides a vertical 50 foot link between the River Weaver and Trent and Mersey Canal.
Later we visit Tatton Park (National Trust, admission extra), one England’s most complete and finest estates. The Old Hall was the manor house until the late 17th century, when work commenced on a new house.
The Neoclassical Mansion is celebrated for its Gillows furniture and collection of ceramics, paintings and books. The library collection is considered one of the finest in the National Trust.
There are 50 acres of formal gardens and a 1000 acre deer park, with a working rare breed farm.
